This year's theme was 'Young People and the Dialogue among Civilizations, Cultures and Peoples - Ideas for action in education, the sciences, culture and communication'. As at previous editions of the Forum, this theme was debated in plenary sessions and working groups and resulted in a final report with young people's recommendations and proposals for concrete action, which was then presented to the opening session of the 33rd General Conference on Monday, 3 October and adopted as an official General Conference document to be used in all Commissions.

UNESCO firmly believes in the added value of global networking between youth and would like to contribute to its development. Over the years, young people the world over have shown a remarkable sense of initiative. By pooling their resources, they have become an important actor in international cooperation at all levels in the fields of education, science, culture, communication and information. UNESCO wants the voices of young people to be heard and their views be integrated in its overall policy. Hence the UNESCO Youth Forum. Youth can make a difference!
